What personal information is needed?
To sign-up to the new Staffordshire Smart Alert system you’ll need to complete an online registration form. This will allow you to choose the information you receive and how you will receive it.
Will you share my details with other agencies?
During the registration process, and in the 'administration' area, you can choose to receive information from our partners. If you authorise them to, they’ll be able to see your data and send you messages. Although all the information providers listed may not be actively using the system at this time, you will be notified as they come on board. You can remove any information provider at any time.
Will you send me spam?
No, the only communication we will have with you will be via the Staffordshire Smart Alert email and occasional consultation or survey via email.
Can I cancel my subscription?
You can opt out at any time, or update your settings to configure the types of messages that you want to receive and remove the ones you don't want. Emails from the Staffordshire Smart Alert system have a ‘change settings’ link at the bottom, clicking this allows you to review your settings and update them.
Why do you ask for my telephone and mobile number?
Staffordshire Smart alerts allows us to send messages via telephone and text services. However, as we will mainly communicate with you via email it is mandatory that you include an email address. On very rare occasions, when we urgently need to update you about an emergency, we may use the telephone and text services. You may also be contacted by a Smart Alert co-ordinator if your email becomes unavailable for any reason.
How will I know emails are from Staffordshire Smart Alert?
All Staffordshire Smart Alert messages are sent within the secure system and are clearly branded with Staffordshire Smart Alert.
Can I reply to the email?
Yes, we welcome your feedback, comments and thoughts. Clicking on the 'reply' link within a message and will send your reply to the person that sent the message and your Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Do you read the emails?
Yes, all emails are read and appropriately actioned. Please be aware that sometimes we will not reply if it is simply information you want to pass to us for our attention. Even if you do not hear from us directly then please be assured that everything you send us is reviewed.
Do others see my email address?
No, other subscribers will not see any of your personal details.
Can I forward or print out Staffordshire Alert messages to share with friends, or is it confidential?
These emails are not confidential and we welcome you to introduce others to the scheme. We would advise you to remove any personal details you do not wish to share, such as email addresses. Friends and family can sign up to Staffordshire Smart Alert by visiting www.StaffordshireSmartAlert.co.uk
Can I change my contact details if I move house or Internet provider?
Yes, please visit the website and log on to your account details on the Staffordshire Smart Alert website.
Does Staffordshire Smart Alert cost me anything?
No, Staffordshire Smart Alert subscription is completely free. There are no other charges or fees.
Is this to replace Neighbourhood Watch?
No, this will not be replacing any Neighbourhood Watch schemes. We hope it will complement existing schemes and initiatives. Staffordshire Alert is linked to the national Neighbourhood Watch 'Our Watch' system and will improve the way police and Watch schemes communicate and support each other.
Can I report crime by email?
No, this scheme is not intended to receive information about crimes. Report these online here, call 101 or direct message Staffordshire Police via Facebook or Twitter. In the case of an emergency, always call 999.
Can I use Staffordshire Smart Alert in an emergency?
No, in an emergency you should always dial 999. An emergency is when there is a risk of serious injury, there is risk of serious damage to property, you suspect a crime is in progress, or there is a serious incident which needs immediate police attendance.
