More than 70 suspects have been arrested as part of our latest efforts to tackle violence against women and girls in Staffordshire. We have been working tirelessly to safeguard those most at risk across communities, resulting in 79 arrests. Officers have been investigating those suspected of a number of crimes against women and girls, including assault, intentional strangulation, engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour, threats to kill, and harassment and sexual offences. Following the 79 arrests, 13 people have been charged and 53 suspects have been given strict bail conditions to protect victims from further harm. Officers have also been patrolling around town centres in the evenings and at weekends, resulting in a number of women being safeguarded. The activity comes after violent offenders have been convicted and received lengthy prison sentences for domestic abuse and assault. Inspector Karen Cooke co-ordinates the weeks of action against VAWG. She said: "This activity is in addition to work that is done on a daily basis to protect vulnerable people and tackle violence against women and girls across Staffordshire. "Violence and abuse of any kind can have a lasting impact on victims and we are committed to taking robust action against those responsible. "If you feel ready to talk to us about violence or abuse you have suffered, please know we are here and will listen to you and support you." To get in touch with us, call 101 or report online using our website. In an emergency, call 999. | ||
