Dear All
🚨 Road Safety Alert: Chicanes, Safe Driving & Parking RulesChicanes are installed to slow traffic, protect vulnerable road users, and improve safety in residential areas. To ensure our roads remain safe for everyone, please take note of the following guidance on responsible driving and parking rules around chicanes.
🔹 Driving Safely Through ChicanesReduce speed when approaching a chicane. They are designed to make drivers slow down.Observe priority signage. If you do not have priority, you must give way to oncoming traffic.Never overtake on the approach to or within a chicane.Keep to your lane. Cutting the chicane or drifting across the centre line is dangerous.Remain patient. Some delays may occur—please be courteous and considerate.
🅿️ Parking Rules: Where You Can and Cannot Park Near Chicanes❌ Parking is NOT permitted:Within the chicane feature itself, including any build-outs, islands, or narrowing points. On the approach or exit of a chicane where parking would restrict visibility for drivers.Opposite the chicane, if doing so would force vehicles into oncoming traffic or create a bottleneck.Anywhere marked with lines, signs, or markings indicating no waiting or no stopping.Where parking would block priority flow, making it unsafe for vehicles to pass.Parking in these areas creates a collision risk, restricts emergency vehicles, and may result in enforcement action.
✔️ Parking MAY be permitted:Where there are no restrictions, markings, or signs prohibiting parking.Where your vehicle:- Does not obstruct the flow of traffic through the chicane,
- Does not cause vehicles to swerve into the opposing lane,
- Does not reduce visibility for approaching drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians.
On-street spaces that remain wide enough for safe, two-way passing (where the road design allows).Drivers are reminded: Even where parking is legal, it must also be safe and not cause obstruction. Enforcement may still apply if a legally parked vehicle creates a hazard.
🔹 Why These Rules MatterImproper parking around chicanes contributes to: Collisions or near missesReduced visibility for pedestrians and childrenDangerous manoeuvres by other driversRoad rage incidents and congestionYour cooperation helps keep our community safe.
Our Message Is Simple:Drive responsibly. Park responsibly. Keep the chicanes clear. Help protect your neighbourhood. |
