Ninja sword banFrom Friday 1 August, ninja swords across England and Wales have been banned and the law around ownership change. Under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) (Amendment, Surrender and Compensation) Order 2025, it is now illegal to own, sell, manufacture or import these weapons.
Anyone found is possession of ninja swords could lead to a prison sentence of up to six months, potentially increasing to two years under the new measures.
The ban is part of the government’s bid to tackle knife crime under Ronan’s Law, named after 16-year-old Ronan Kanda, murdered near his Wolverhampton home in 2022.
Chief inspector Dave Barrow, force knife crime lead, said: “Each sword that has been surrendered is one less deadly weapon on the streets of Staffordshire.
“We are committed to tackling knife crime in Staffordshire and we welcome this new legislation to help stop violence, save lives and protect our wider communities.”
Anyone who still owns a ninja sword can hand them in to one of the knife banks across the county but no longer be eligible for compensation. Details of the amnesty bins can be found: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/ditchtheblade | ||
