WEATHER WARNING - DRIVE SAFE

There is a chance of snow and ice this week. We are urging people to travel carefully and stay safe on the road.

Firstly, make sure that your car is weather ready:
* Check your oil level using the dip stick and top-up if necessary.
* Check your tyre tread depth and air pressure. The legal tyre tread depth for cars in the UK and Europe is 1.6mm.
* Check your engine coolant level and top-up if required. Only check this when the engine is cool otherwise you risk scalding yourself.
* Check your lights and indicators are all working properly and replace bulbs or fuses if required.

More information on this can be found here: 6 simple checks to prepare your vehicle for winter - Met Office

As well as making road conditions worse, snowfall also impacts on visibility. We advise only make journeys that are absolutely necessary. If you do have to travel, we strongly advise you to keep to main roads wherever possible and to plan your route in advance. You should also have de-icer, warm clothing, food, water and blankets in your vehicle, in case you become stranded.
