Cyber Security Advice

Cybercrime is on the rise due to the increasing use and availability of technology to people of all ages. You can reduce the risks and continue to enjoy smart technology by following these recommendations:

  • Update the Operating System: Ensure your device's operating system is always up-to-date to protect against vulnerabilities.
  • Evaluate Settings: Default settings may not prioritize security. Review and adjust your device settings to enhance protection.
  • Turn on 2-Step Verification (2SV): Add an extra layer of security by enabling two-step verification on your accounts.
  • Disconnect Unused IoT Devices: Remove any Internet of Things (IoT) devices that you no longer use to reduce potential entry points for hackers.
  • Change Default and Regular Passwords: Always change default passwords and regularly update your passwords to maintain security.
  • Secure the Router: Ensure your router is secure by changing default settings, updating firmware, and using strong passwords.
  • Enable a Firewall: Activate a firewall to help block unauthorized access to your network.
  • Connect to a Separate/Guest Network: Use a separate network for guests to prevent unauthorized access to your main network.
  • Update Software: Regularly update all software, including apps, to protect against the latest threats.
